A virus that forced the world to stay at home was always going to affect nearly every facet of life. The world was thrown into chaos at first, but man’s ability to adapt to changes was very well expressed again. Although online learning/training had existed long before then, the inability for people to gather in the same location opened the eyes of a lot of people to the opportunities that came along with it. Reduced costs, flexibility, and the ability to train different people across different locations are just some of the many benefits.

Despite its many advantages, the peculiarity of the process of delivering classes virtually means that some issues might arise. In this article, we have provided our solutions to these challenges that may arise from online learning.

Online learning is Sometimes Boring

Since students can’t participate, the teacher-gives, the student receives' mode of learning in many online courses makes participants feel neglected as there's hardly anything to engage them. This lack of engagement may cause students to move from lesson to lesson without fully grasping information from the previous classes. This lack of interest/motivation could be personal or come from a lack of engaging teaching methods. While the learning by doing concept is not uncommon, it is often overlooked in many online courses. This is what deters consistency and discipline while using the numerous free resources online, such as udemy, youtube, e.t.c. To tackle this problem, we are taking a unique approach to ensure participants are constantly engaged in the best ways possible with our live classes, breakout sessions, and peer programs.

Live Classes

Our live classes are designed to ensure participants are learning, sharing, and receiving feedback in real-time. To elevate the virtual learning process, we completely shift the experience from what would have otherwise been perceived as a teacher-student relationship to a peer-peer relationship to ensure ease of communication.

Breakout sessions

After every class, participants are grouped into Zoom breakout rooms to present and validate what they’ve learned before taking the next class. This will help peers learn from one another while developing soft skills like communication, time management, and teamwork.

Peer discussions

Peer discussions are not only confined to zoom breakout sessions. Participants are encouraged to have conversations on slack channels, share codes on github, ask for opinions, unblock one another and give feedbacks. Leveraging on peers and trainers by alternating between live class and peer discussions, participants can easily get help, get unblocked easily, and improve communication skills to ensure they have the required soft skills to take the lead when they start working.

Unclear Expectations or direction of learning

A major challenge with self-learning or online learning is that participants underperform because they do not have a clear sense of direction or expectation of what is required of them to perform well during the course and how to apply the things learned in the real world.

At Sabilink, our approach to learning is designed to get you ready to hit the ground running in the industry by equipping you with the right set of technical and soft skills.

We believe it is important that participants understand what to expect and what is expected of them to help them get the best out of their training. A term of agreement form is displayed during course enrollment so that expectations are managed. Course curriculums and description is shared with participants so they know what to expect, while it is expected of them to present during breakout sessions, give feedback and engage in peer discussions.

While there are many obstacles and challenges for participants to overcome in learning online, our goal is to eradicate these roadblocks by creating a fully immersive learning experience to bring you closer to your career goals

Keep learning.
