It’s no news that lots of people find it difficult to break into Information Technology; Sometimes, people consider those who made it to Information Technology some kind of geniuses. Oh well, our aim is to make a genius out of you. The obvious reason why it’s so difficult for people to break into the information technology space is because they lack the foundation. Computer Science is a three-four years course in the University and it’s close to impossible to attend a six months bootcamp and expect to be at the same level as those who spent four years in the University studying. Nevertheless, IT skills are evolving and you have to constantly learn and improve yourself to stay relevant in the field. Spending three-four years in school doesn’t guarantee success in the industry without the right mindset to learn and continuously improve. We have identified few areas we believe everyone diving into IT should master irrespective of areas of specialization you decide to venture into. This foundation class is important to level up and this is what this post is about.

OPERATING SYSTEM

frame

Just like every area of specialization in every field, this is a broad topic and people spend their entire career and time in the university learning about it. You need to understand that one can only scratch the surface within a period of time and it’s up to you as a learner to continue to learn about the areas you are interested in. We have structured our foundation class to allow participants understand the basics of how Operating System works.Participants will be introduced to Virtualization and Linux. This is very important for participants to understand the working knowledge where their code will run. Irrespective of the what area you decide to dive into in future, the importance of this knowledge cannot be over-emphasized. We’ll only scratch the surface and give you the basic foundation as we expect you to continue to learn more about it. It’s also important to note that we’ll introduce student to Containers; As a matter of fact the knowledge of Linux will immediately be put to use here as participants will create their own Jailed process (namespaces), change the root of a folder with chroot and manage resources allocation with Control Groups at the operating system level.

INTRODUCTION TO CLOUD COMPUTING

frame

Introduction to Cloud Computing: Everyone must have heard the word Cloud, we all believe this word is the future of IT. Please permit me to insinuate that I think this word became popular to non-technical people when Apple introduced ICloud. Suddenly every Apple user talks about how they can sync their data to the cloud, restores data after factory reset e.t.c. Ok! Enough about Apple, this course will expose participants to cloud computing on AWS, the knowledge of Linux and programming will immediately be put to use here. Participants will be able to relate to AWS since they already understood Linux and virtualization.

The full cloud computing course details and enrollment method is

INFRASTRUCTURE AS CODE

Infrastructure As Code: The last bit in our foundation class is for participants to build on their knowledge of programming and AWS to automate creation of Infrastructure, participants will be introduced to AWS Cloud formation and Terraform.

WHAT IS NEXT?

After attending the foundation class, participants can immediately start applying for IT roles like Cloud Engineer, System Administrator etc. As far as IT is concerned, you have to keep learning. Participants who want to continue learning can decide to take specialization courses like Web Development, Devops, Data Science e.t.c
